Introduction
The iPhone 11 Pro was launched alongside the iPhone 11 in September 2019. Despite this, it’s surprisingly different to the basic model, with big upgrades to its screen, camera system, battery, storage and water resistance. Despite its superior features, the iPhone 11 Pro is smaller than the iPhone 11, and even marginally smaller than the iPhone 12. If you can live without 5G, it makes a great alternative.
Design
iPhones have always led the way for style, and despite its bigger size the iPhone 11 Pro Max is no exception. Crafted from surgical grade stainless steel with glass front and back, the phone looks as fresh today as it did at launch. Like other recent iPhones, the iPhone 11 Pro Max shrugs off dust and water - it’s tested to a depth of four metres for up to 30 minutes.
Camera
The iPhone 11 Pro adds a third telephoto camera to the iPhone 11’s dual 12 megapixel array. The system offers a 4x optical zoom, with up to 10x of digital zoom. Features including optical image stabilisation and a brilliant night mode mean that the iPhone 11 Pro deals superbly with holiday snaps, and offers fantastic portrait shots.
Video
If you want to shoot video like a pro, the iPhone 11 Pro is game. It can handle both 1080p HD and 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second - enough to capture every detail. Optical image stabilisation helps to keep everything steady, even when using the 6X digital zoom. You can even shoot slo-mo at up to 240 frames per second!
Display
The iPhone 11 Pro’s 5.8” screen is a major upgrade over the 6.1” screen found on the standard iPhone. Though slightly smaller, its OLED technology makes for far superior brightness and contrast. At 458 pixels per inch (ppi) compared to 326ppi, it also produces crisper and more detailed images. In fact, it’s far more comparable to the screen you’ll find in an iPhone 12.
Processor
The iPhone 11 Pro uses Apple’s own A13 Bionic chip. It’s not as fast as the latest generation A14 Bionic, but the iPhone 11 Pro can hold its own against all but the iPhone 12, or the fastest Android competition. There’s still plenty of grunt for games, multimedia and creativity.
Battery
Apple’s battery and processor optimisations, together with the efficient OLED screen, mean that the iPhone 11 Pro can play video for up to 18 hours on a charge. There’s support for Qi wireless charging, which helps you grab a convenient top-up. Alternatively, use the Lightning connector with a 20W adaptor and you’ll charge to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Colours & Options
The iPhone 11 Pro comes in four colours only found on Pro series models: gold, silver, Space Grey, and the previously unseen Midnight Green. Storage capacity starts at 64GB, but there are also 256GB and 512GB models.
The iPhone 11 Pro supports Qi wireless charging, but not the MagSafe cases and mounts designed for the iPhone 12. As with other iPhones, there’s still a huge choice of cases, holders, wallets and the like. You can find an accessory for almost any need!
