You Can Now Try Out a Samsung Device, From Your iPhone 12/06/23

For many of us, an iPhone was the first proper smartphone we owned, after using our iPod for years and understanding the simple user interface, Apple’s phone was the obvious choice.

We developed our swiping skills, tried out new iOS apps, learnt clever tricks like how to pay using our phone, use iMessage, and generally got comfortable in the knowledge that, a bit like our bank account, we would never need to try or get used to using another brand.

As the years have gone on, iPhones have been passed down to children and generally families tend to stick to the same genre and brand.  However, recent ads glamorising the power of the astonishing 200 megapixel camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra or the flip capabilities of the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 may have had us wondering whether maybe it is time to be brave and switch sides…but what if we don’t like it?

This is where Samsung’s “Try Galaxy” app comes in.

And it’s made for your iPhone.

With the app added as a bookmark to your iPhone’s home screen, you can experience everything Samsung has to offer without leaving your iPhone.  Super ingenious idea and very easy to try – which is the point I guess as Samsung are relying on you finding their user interface as intuitive as Apple’s, with some extra features you may not know about.

It is basically a demo of Samsung’s One UI that you’ll find installed on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 phones. The app doesn’t actually affect your iPhone’s existing data or apps as it’s a simulation of the Android-based interface, which also means you don’t actually need to install anything on your phone to try it out.

“Welcome to the other side”

Load up the app (which will also work on a desktop PC if you’d prefer), and you are invited to swipe in all directions to look at what the Samsung user interface has to offer – you’ll even receive a simulated text from someone called Sam to ‘welcome you to the other side’.

There are other amusing messages during the demo too, including an entire conversation with Generic Friend 1 who isn’t very pleased about being stored on your phone as ‘Generic Friend 1’. Each conversation is a glimpse into the merits of using a Samsung smartphone which is beautifully executed.

If there has ever been a time when iPhone users may want to explore the world of Samsung, it is now. The latest handsets have been revolutionary and highly impressive, especially when it comes to photography and cameras, which is why Samsung, quite rightly took the initiative to dangle a carrot with the ‘Try Galaxy’ app.

The app also entices you to explore features such as Samsung Health, Galaxy Wearable and Kids Mode, plus links to more information about Samsung’s Nightography mode for cameras, and Samsung’s connected products, all from the ‘safety’ of your iPhone.

Its a bit like taking a Samsung out for a test drive to see what you are missing.  And of course, to see whether Samsung can lure you away from your iPhone to one of their devices.

The app won’t allow you to do everything a Samsung phone can, but it offers a bit of insight into how they operate, what’s different compared to Apple’s products, and the key features available.
