Google Pixel 8 Pro

The Google Pixel 8 Pro launched as Google’s top-tier Android device in its generation, offering advanced AI features, improved cameras, and a premium display. Three years in, it still holds up well, particularly for photography and software longevity, but it has some compromises. It does not match today’s flagships in raw speed or battery endurance, and the 30-watt charging feels slow compared to competitors. For users who value clean Android, long-term support, and thoughtful AI features, it is still a solid option.

Pros

  • 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen
  • Versatile quad-camera system
  • Clean software with 7 years of updates
  • IP68 water and dust resistance
  • Premium build and design feel

Cons

  • Charging speed is modest
  • Large size may be awkward for one-handed use
  • Battery life is solid but not exceptional

Pixel 8 Pro – Overview

The Pixel 8 Pro balances features, software, and hardware. Its 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display adapts refresh rates for smoother scrolling and better efficiency. The Tensor G3 processor handles everyday apps, AI tasks, and photography well, but it is not the fastest chip in 2025. The quad-camera system delivers sharp, well-exposed images, especially in daylight and controlled low-light conditions. Video recording is steady and reliable, but not flagship-class cinematic. Google’s long software support and AI features such as Magic Eraser and Live Translate keep the device relevant years after release.

Pixel 8 Pro – Design

The Pixel 8 Pro keeps Google’s familiar look but gives it a more refined finish. The matte glass back feels premium, the aluminum frame adds a solid grip, and the camera bar blends more naturally into the design. It is a larger phone, yet the curved edges help it sit comfortably in the hand. With IP68 protection and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, it feels durable and well built without trying too hard to look flashy.

Pixel 8 Pro – Display

Google Pixel 8 Pro display

The OLED display is bright, vivid, and accurate. Adaptive refresh rates keep scrolling fluid and save battery life, but peak brightness is not as high as newer flagships, making sunlight visibility decent but not perfect. Colours look natural and contrast is strong, suitable for video streaming, gaming, and reading.

Pixel 8 Pro – Camera & Video

The quad-camera system is versatile. The 50-megapixel main lens captures detailed images, the ultrawide lens handles landscapes effectively, and the telephoto lens provides useful zoom. Computational photography improves low-light shots, but extreme low-light conditions can reveal noise. Video stabilisation is solid but cannot match flagship-level cinematic footage. Overall, it is one of the best camera experiences at this tier, but not flawless.

Pixel 8 Pro – Spec Options

The Tensor G3 processor is capable, managing multitasking, AI features, and everyday apps smoothly. Heavy gaming is possible but performance is not on par with the fastest Android or Apple devices. Thermal management is good, and the phone rarely feels warm under normal use. It prioritises efficiency and AI functionality over raw performance.

Pixel 8 Pro – Build Quality

The Pixel 8 Pro feels solid and premium thanks to its recycled aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus on both the front and back. It has a comfortable, slightly rounded design that sits well in the hand, and its IP68 rating provides resistance against dust and water for everyday use. The glossy back can attract fingerprints and feel a little slippery, and the metal‑glass seam may feel sharp to some users, so a case is recommended for added protection.

Pixel 8 Pro – Life and Charge Time

Battery life — video playback

Pixel 98 h 28 m

Full charge ~1 h 39 m · 51% in ~30 min

Pixel 8 Pro10 h 32 m

Full charge ~1 h 31 m · 50% in ~30 min

Pixel 88 h 20 m

Full charge ~1 h 12 m · 50% in ~30 min

The Pixel 8 Pro delivers the best endurance of the three, lasting just over ten and a half hours of video playback. That puts it comfortably ahead of the Pixel 8 at a little over eight hours and the Pixel 9 at eight hours and twenty-eight minutes.

Charging performance is similarly strong. The Pixel 8 Pro reaches half a charge in around thirty minutes and completes a full charge in about one hour and thirty-one minutes. The Pixel 8 finishes slightly faster at around one hour and twelve minutes, while the Pixel 9 takes roughly one hour and thirty-nine minutes.

Overall, the Pixel 8 Pro offers the best balance of battery life and charging speed, making it the most reliable option for long days of use.

Pixel 8 Pro – Operating System

Google Pixel 8 Pro1,760
Google Pixel 81,528

CPU multi-core scores

Google Pixel 94,692
Google Pixel 8 Pro4,442
Google Pixel 83,821

The Google Pixel 8 Pro scores roughly 1601 single-core and 3951 multi-core on Geekbench. This puts it ahead of the Pixel 7 Pro at 1478 single-core and 3832 multi-core and slightly ahead of the Pixel 9 Pro, which scores 1539 single-core and 2848 multi-core. The results show the Pixel 8 Pro handles daily apps, multitasking, and AI features smoothly, offering balanced performance without overheating during extended use.

Beyond the numbers, the Pixel 8 Pro’s performance feels consistent in real-world use. The Tensor G3 focuses less on peak speed and more on dependable, intelligent processing. Photo editing, voice recognition, and AI tools respond quickly, animations remain steady, and the phone avoids heavy thermal throttling. It is built for reliable, sustained performance rather than headline-grabbing benchmark scores, and that approach benefits everyday users.

Pixel 8 Pro – Additional Features

AI-powered enhancements for the camera, voice features, and overall system optimisation

Seven years of Android OS, security, and feature updates

In-display fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock for secure access

Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for improved drop and scratch protection

Fast 30W USB-C wired charging, plus wireless and reverse wireless charging

Pixel 8 Pro – Problems with Older Phones / Issues to Look Out For

The Pixel 8 Pro remains a reliable and powerful device, but older units can show signs of wear that affect performance. Battery capacity may decline over time, reducing screen-on hours and making charging slightly slower. Prolonged use can also impact thermal management, causing the device to feel warmer during heavy tasks. The OLED display may develop minor burn-in on static elements if used at high brightness for long periods. Fast charging speeds may also become less consistent as the battery ages. Being aware of these factors helps ensure an older Pixel 8 Pro continues to deliver a strong user experience.

Pixel 8 Pro – Verdict

The Pixel 8 Pro remains a well-rounded device with excellent software support, a capable camera system, and a polished display. It is not the fastest or most efficient phone in 2025, and charging is modest, but it delivers a thoughtful Android experience that stays relevant for years. This phone rewards users who value reliability, AI-driven photography, and software longevity over raw power.
