Best folding phones

By Mozillion Team

If you love a big screen but hate a phone that won’t fit in your pocket, folding phones are the answer. After a few shaky early years, they have grown up: today’s folds and flips are thinner, tougher and better built, with water resistance, proper flagship chips and years of software updates. The crease has all but disappeared, and the hinges feel made to last.

We’ve spent real time living with the current crop, and the gap between a folding phone and a normal slab has never been smaller. You still pay a premium for the engineering, but you get something a regular phone simply can’t do, whether that’s a tablet in your pocket or a full-size screen that shrinks to the size of a coaster.

There are two main types to choose between, and which suits you comes down to what you want more of: screen, or pocketability.

Flips & clamshells

The modern take on the 1990s flip phone. Closed, it folds down to a compact square that disappears into a small pocket or bag; open it and you get a full-size phone. Pick one if you want a normal-size phone that takes up less room. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the one to beat.

Full-size foldables

Phone-sized when shut, these open out like a book into a near tablet-sized display, brilliant for films, gaming, reading and multitasking. Pick one if you want the biggest screen you can carry. The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold lead the pack.

Here are the best folding and flip phones you can buy on Mozillion right now.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

Why buy? Simply the best folding phone you can buy.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the folding phone to beat. Closed, it works just like a normal phone thanks to a proper 6.5-inch cover display; open it out and you get a vast 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED that is closer to a small tablet, superb for films, gaming, multitasking and reading two things at once.

This is Samsung’s most capable fold yet. It pairs the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy with a serious 200MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery and S Pen support, so it doubles as a sketch pad and note taker. The adaptive 1 to 120Hz screens stay buttery smooth while sipping power, and seven years of updates mean it will go the distance.

It is the priciest phone here by some margin, and it is on the heavy side, but nothing else combines this much screen with this much power. If you want the ultimate foldable, this is it.

Why buy? A tablet-sized screen, a little easier on the wallet.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 delivers the same core idea as the Ultra for less. Unfold it and you get the same 8-inch 120Hz AMOLED, with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy keeping everything quick and S Pen support on hand for notes and sketching.

Samsung’s thinner, lighter redesign makes it the most pocketable Fold yet, so it feels far less like a brick in the hand than early foldables did. It gets the full seven years of updates too. You give up some of the Ultra’s camera firepower and a little polish, but the headline experience, a big folding screen in your pocket, is all here.

If you want into foldables without stretching to the Ultra, this is the sweet spot.

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold

4.5 / 5

Why buy? The most refined and durable foldable around.

Google’s fold is the sensible, grown-up choice. It opens to an 8-inch 120Hz display, and it is the only mainstream foldable with full IP68 water and dust resistance, paired with a new gearless hinge that feels built to survive years of opening and closing.

Inside, the Tensor G6 brings Google’s genuinely clever software and class-leading photo processing, and uniquely it runs 16GB of RAM on every storage tier. The matched, bright inner and cover screens and Google’s App Handles make it one of the best foldables for proper multitasking, with seven years of updates behind it.

The camera sits a step below Google’s best slab phones, but if you want a fold that is as tough as it is smart, this is the one to get.

Why buy? The best flip phone, and the most pocketable big screen.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 comes at big screens from the opposite direction. Open, it is a full-size 6.9-inch phone with a tall, immersive display; closed, it folds in half into a neat square that slips into the smallest pocket or bag. It is the most stylish way to carry a flagship.

The large cover screen handles notifications, selfies and quick replies without opening it, and inside it is a proper flagship with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and seven years of updates. The polished hinge and glass build feel every bit as premium as a slab.

The folding design means a slightly smaller battery than a traditional phone, so it is a day-and-a-half device rather than a two-day one, but if you want a big screen that takes up next to no room, the Flip is genuinely clever.
