If the iPhone 13 Pro is the best smartphone you can buy, the iPhone 13 Pro Max is the best big one. It\u2019s got all the same advantages as the iPhone 13 Pro, including crushing performance, and one of the best camera systems you\u2019ll find on any phone.<\/p>\n

But the iPhone 13 Pro Max is bigger than the regular Pro thanks to a screen upgrade. This phone\u2019s 6.7\u201d OLED has a 120Hz refresh rate, and packs in 1,284×2,778 pixels. That\u2019s still a little short of the QHD+ screens on some rivals, but in practice it\u2019s plenty for movie night – or movie making.<\/p>\n

This is an insanely expensive phone, but if money really is no object – and you want a bigger screen for gaming or bingeing – it\u2019s simply unrivalled.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ll get to the Android phones, but not yet. While the iPhone 13 mini is by no means the ultimate iPhone, it\u2019s comfortably the best small phone you can get your hands on, and no \u2018best of\u2019 list should be without it.<\/p>\n

The iPhone 13 mini has exactly the same industrial style as the full-sized iPhone 13. It gets the same waterproofing, 5G support, and seven-year iOS updates as the rest of the range too. Crucially, it also has the same mind-melting performance from its A15 Bionic chip, although it is slightly de-tuned compared to the monster in the Pro-level flagships.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the catch? Mainly that you\u2019ll need to live with a 5.4\u201d screen limited to \u2018just\u2019 a 1,080×2,340 resolution. The camera is also more basic than on the flagship iPhones, but you still get a dual-lens 12MP system with Night Mode, Photographic Styles and Cinematic mode. The battery won\u2019t hold on as long, but it\u2019ll still last a day of normal use – and we got it to loop movies for more than 13 hours.<\/p>\n

In essence, the iPhone 13 mini is a smaller, cheaper version of the regular iPhone 13, with very few compromises. If you want outright performance, get the iPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max, but if you can sacrifice speed and a little photo quality for something more pocketable, buy an iPhone 13 mini<\/a> and rejoice.<\/p>\n

What if you want an incredibly powerful phone, with great cameras and an astonishing screen, but running Android rather than iOS? That\u2019s going to be a Samsung.<\/p>\n

Specifically, it\u2019s going to be the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the top-of-the-line model in Samsung\u2019s flagship S21 range. It kicks things off with a whopping 6.8\u201d panoramic OLED screen boasting 1,440×3,200 pixels – almost a third more than you\u2019d get on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. At the back, the quad cameras include a 108MP wide lens and a monster 10x periscope zoom. Taking a selfie? Will a 40MP front camera do?<\/p>\n

This phone uses Samsung\u2019s own Exynos 2100 processor, and it\u2019s a bit of a beast. While it can\u2019t match the latest iPhones – snapping at the heels of the iPhone 11 in 3D benchmarks – it\u2019s a match for all but its fastest Android competitors. Add in 5G, waterproofing, and a promise that updates will continue as far as Android 14, and this has to be one of the best Android phones you can buy.<\/p>\n

The Pixel 6 Pro is Google\u2019s first attempt to go head to head with Apple and Samsung in the premium phone market. If you ask us, it\u2019s mission accomplished. This big, unusual phone offers a touch of stand-out glamour, along with high-end features and performance that make it a credible iPhone alternative.<\/p>\n

Much of the focus at launch was on this phone\u2019s Google-designed Tensor processor. While this gives it a performance lift compared to previous Pixels, its main benefit is powering the AI behind the phone\u2019s most advanced features. These include tricks like speech recognition, language translation, and Magic Eraser – which can touch unwanted objects out of photographs.<\/p>\n

Ah yes, photographs. The Pixel 6 Pro has a triple-camera system, including 48MP telephoto and 50MP wide lenses. This pro-level hardware gets levelled up further by Tensor\u2019s advanced image processing. Stand-out image quality, enhanced by powerful creative modes, make this one of the best camera phones you can buy.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, there\u2019s everything else you\u2019d expect from a flagship phone. Its 6.7\u201d OLED screen offers 1,440×3,120 resolution and refresh rates up to 120Hz. There\u2019s waterproofing, 5G support, and a 5,000mAh battery that can go all day – and then some. Like other Pixels, the Pixel 6 Pro will be one of the first phones to get security and operating system updates. The Pixel 6 range launched with Android 12, and Google promises updates to October 2024 – probably including Android 15.<\/p>\n

While its looks aren\u2019t for everyone, and it won\u2019t win every performance drag race, Google\u2019s first truly high-end phone performs well and feels different. Enhanced by Pixel-only features and Google support, it really does showcase Android at its best.<\/p>\n
